Suicide care from the nursing perspective: A meta?synthesis of qualitative studies

Aims To explore nurses' experiences of suicide care and to identify synthesize the most suitable interventions for people with suicidal behaviour from a nursing perspective. Design Qualitative meta-synthesis. Data sources Comprehensive search five electronic databases qualitative studies published between January 2015 June 2019. Review methods The PRISMA statement was used reporting different phases literature Critical Appraisal Skills Programme (CASP) research checklist as an appraisal framework. synthesis conducted using Sandelowski Barroso's method. Results Seventeen articles met inclusion criteria. data analysis revealed 13 subcategories which four main categories emerged: ‘Understanding consequence suffering’, ‘Nurses’ personal distress in care’, ‘The presence nurse axis care’ and, ‘Improving nurses’ relational competences better therapeutic environment’. Conclusion Further training nurses on relationship, particularly non-mental health work settings, monitoring emotional impact relation is required promote more effective prevention care.
